Alex has been trained extensively in hand to hand combat by both parents, and in a wide variety of ballistic and energy weapons by his father and Rocket Raccoon. He has commando mission and leadership training as well.
Powers:
Mentat (mid-level) - Alex has an accelerated cognitive ability, allowing him to calculate battle plans more efficiently, and retain information with, while not flawless, very strong recall.
Telepathy - Alex has strong communicative abilities with his telepathy, but cannot conduct mental probes or control others. This power is most often used to bridge language barriers the Guardians' universal translators are not yet equipped for, and to aid in communication with the rest of his team.
Telekinesis - Limited to small weights, and when under stress, extremely close range. Alex is proficient in using this ability to reload his weapons without the use of his hands, but can only use it on heavier, or more remote, objects when focused.
Precognition - At random times, Alex enters a trancelike state, voicing sometimes simple, sometimes cryptic prophetic statements. He has no control over this power, and really wishes he could get rid of it.
History:
When not busy saving the universe, Peter Quill developed a romance with his teammate, Mantis. She politely informed him after one date of the time, place, and particulars of their wedding ceremony. Peter humored her, but sure enough, their next mission, right on schedule, ended up fulfilling her prophecy. Mantis went on to clarify that their son would one day be instrumental in carrying on Peter's work. Eight months later, a boy was born.

Alex grew up on Knowhere Station, soaking up every language and bit of cultural knowledge possible, while being trained by his parents. By and large, however, Alex fully recognized the absurdity of most of the situations he had to deal with, displaying a preternatual maturity even as a child. He generally counted himself and his father as the only sane men in the room, when dealing with galactic politics. As he grew older, he gravitated towards combat training and mission tactics more than diplomacy, leaving that to 'the book readers' on Knowhere.

Although Alex considers himself a pragmatist, he clings very tightly to his own code of honor and ideals, and would sacrifice himself without a second thought to save others. He'll simply complain about it the whole way through.
