Powers:
Alex is a shapeshifter who can take on the shape of any animal real or mythological. When he transforms into an animal he acquires all abilities and physical attributes of that animal. So if Alex takes the form of a falcon he gains the enhanced vision of a falcon. He retains human intelligence in animal form and has limited telepathic powers allowing him to communicate with others while in animal form. Any injuries he sustains in any form heal at a normal rate, but when he reverts back to his goo form all his injuries disappear.
History:
Alex grew up with his mother and brother on the outskirts of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory in Canada. His father died when he was six, leaving his mother to raise two boys on her own. She worked in a local store and the two boys were mostly left to fend for themselves. Alex kept a close eye on his younger brother and made sure he stayed out of trouble and didn’t get hurt.
His powers manifested at the age of twelve and the manifestation resulted in him turning into a pile of clear goo on the floor. With concentration he was able to take the shape of any animal real or mythological, but he was unable to resume his human form.
The day before his manifestation was the last day of school he had and the last time he’d have any real social interaction with groups of people. He has a sixth grade education level, but can interact reasonably well with people.
He spent a good majority of his teen years practicing his shapechanging in the forests surrounding Whitehorse while his brother was in school. When Samuel wasn’t in school, the two of them would wander the woods exploring and having adventures. Alex would often change his shape upon his brother’s request, quickly mastering the shapes of animals in the surrounding areas. His brother would show him pictures of animals, real and mythological, in books and challenge him to turn into them.

His mother and brother were killed in a car accident when a drunk driver slammed his truck head on into the car they were in. Fifteen year old Alex was devastated and he couldn’t assume any form for two months. The town’s residents were unable to find him and not knowing about his mutation assumed he had run away. The house and all the family’s possessions were sold off and Alex was left penniless and without any possessions.
Driven by grief, Alex finally managed to assume a solid form and went after the man who killed his mother and brother.
He assumed the form of a grizzly bear and tore the man to shreds. Shocked and appalled at his actions, Alex left Whitehorse for good.
He wandered across Canada in various animal forms for a year until he eventually reached the central plains.
One day he stumbled across the scene of a car accident. Investigating, he found a man trapped in the car and who was badly injured. He assumed the form of a sasquatch and pulled the man from the wreck. Alex carried him to the closest hospital, where the staff took the injured man from him. Alex explained what happened and assuming he was Sasquatch from Alpha Flight, no questions were asked and Alex was allowed to go on his way.
The man he saved was a member of Department K and when he had recovered he approached Walter to thank him for saving his life. When Walter told Agent Saunders he didn’t do it, Saunders went searching for the individual responsible. It took a year for Saunders to track down Alex. Alex and Saunders talked for a good length of time and when it was apparent what Alex could do, he was offered a spot in Department K on the trainee team.
Alex accepted the offer after a lot of consideration.
He settled in his new home rather nicely and became close to his teammates. He became close to Melanie Hall, the other quiet person on the team.
Their first challenge would come when Jordan noticed the old Weapon X site was active again and equipment was being moved. They did some investigating and found Weapon X's new base and that they were holding Misha Romanoff and a few others. Alpha Flight went in and freed the prisoners with Jordan and Alex providing the muscle for the team. Alpha Flight got the prisoners out and managed to destroy the base in the process.
Alpha Flight would get drawn into the conflict with Set and the Deviants when deviants came out of the water and attacked the town of Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and Labrador. Alpha Flight would drive the deviants back into the sea, but when Emily was taken by the priests of Set Alpha Flight would once again battle deviants. They would team up with the other super hero teams and defeat the deviants and Set.
Their next challenge would come when Atlantean soldiers started attacking the surface. Alpha Flight assembled and went to confront the Atlanteans. Alex met them in shark form and tore through soldiers while helping his team.
Alex's crush on Mel grew and eventually Jordan got all the legal paperwork so Alex could accompany her in public places in the form of a capuchain monkey. Alex and Mel went out to dinner together and while it was stressful for both, they managed to have a good time.
Alex felt the psychic backlash when the Eternals' Uni-Mind was disrupted and it made him fall to the ground when he was out flying as a dragon. It didn't hurt him much, but it had been a surprise.
Alpha Flight would be called in to help with security with the Winter Olympics in Canada. During lunch Alex got to meet Mel's parents and got along well with them.
Alex also helped Marrina on her maiden flight with her new ankle wings.
Deciding that he needed some help with his powers, Alex took a few months off from Alpha Flight and went to Xavier's. There he received help from Charles Xavier and Jean Grey-Summers. By the time he was ready to return to Alpha Flight Alex could hold human form for just over an hour. During his time at Xavier's Alpha Flight was being framed for crimes by another team. Alex didn't believe that his team was capable of those things and would eventually leave Xavier's to go help them.
After attacks on the US Embassy in Ottawa, Alpha Flight was apprehended and interrogated. They proclaimed their innocence and were kept in cells designed to hold them. Mel got free and Jordan instructed her how to get the others out. They clashed with Beta Flight, but in the end escaped. They holed up in a cabin for awhile to avoid recapture. During this time they managed to celebrate Mel's birthday.
Jordan managed to track down the people responsible for framing Alpha Flight and the team went after them. They fought with Omega Flight and won, clearing their names. They returned to headquarters and resumed being Alpha Flight.
Alpha Flight's next challenge would come when suitors from Atlantis came up to seek Marrina's hand in marriage. One by one the suitors challenged Mason to a fight and Alpha Flight had his back. Mel surprised Alex with pie on his birthday and he kissed her for the first time. The final fight with the suitors came in Atlantis, but to make Mason do it, the Jeffries were kidnapped and held hostage.
Mel, Jordan and Alex went to rescue the Jeffries while Mason and Marrina went to Atlantis. They managed to free the Jeffries, but Mel was seriously injured in the rescue mission. They returned home and Alex stayed at Mel's side to help her through her coalescence.
Personality:
Alex is a quiet and reserved teen. His mutation and the loss of his family has made him quiet and withdrawn. He hates it when people treat him like an animal.
